Hi,

I want to put a new, bigger, HDD (just a SATA, not SSD) into my ASUS X54C laptop, and wondered how easy it would be to clone and transfer the C (operating system) drive to a partition on the new drive? I have W7 Home Premium OS.

You can simply make an image of your existing system using Windows inbuilt system image software &/or Macrium then remove the older HDD and reimage to the new HDD. You may then simply need to recover some unallocated space using an excellent (free) tool Partition Wizard. With Partition Wizard the installed minitool will do the job but I'd also make the bootable CD. This is an essential, highly respect tool to have.

Thanks. I am using software called DriveClone 9 to do the actual cloning. I wondered if I needed to have Windows 7 already on the new HDD first, or if I can just transfer the clone straight from the external drive to the new, empty, HDD?
