hello new here and new to win 7 just bought it friday.

I wanted to install the 64bit cause i know my PC can handle it just fine, but I had to install the 32bit do to my other OS being XP pro 32bit.
Now that I have the 32bit installed I want to upgrade it to the 64bit but i keep on getting this error: this installation disc isn't compatible with your version of windows, to upgrade you need the correct installation disc. (which I have since it came with both 32bit and 64bit).

How would I go about upgrading to the 64bit?

thank you in advance for the advice.

You can't "upgrade" from 32 to 64. You must do a "clean install", using the 64 bit disc.

Boot from the WIn7 DVD, select Custom install, then Advanced drive tools, format the drive and install.

On one of the first screens it will allow you to "Stay connected to the internet during install" - you will need to plug an ethernet cable to do this. This will assure that the lastest drivers will be added to the installer, which is an important issue with 64 bit.

As soon as you get started up, go online to Windows Updates and get more drivers, then check your Device Manager to see if any are missing - look for a yellow ! mark next to device. Click on the Device and use Driver tab to search online for the driver. If this fails, google the exact device name to hunt down the driver.

You can also check the Support Downloads page for you model computer for other drivers and apps. Get Adobe reader/flash and Java runtime/free Ofc. from their sites.
