Hi, there is some confusion regarding this .
Some examples give, that when you click command in repair windows in installation media, you get to
x:\windows\system32 and showed that these commands are used successfully..
In my case, when I click the command prompt, that goes to
x:\source and if i type these commands, the commands get successfully executed.
But I do not know, which is correct?
Even Microsoft help page do not mention the correct.
What has been said in msoft article is just click command and execute those commands like bootrec /fixmbr.
Why it shows different directory when selecting the command prompt.
Do this forum have any tutorial for reference
which is correct way of using fixmbr etc.
hope to get replies.
You are booting thro installation media
You are using fixmbr in x:
but our system OS is on eiher c: or D:

Hi, samuria, thanks for information. But some sites show x:source where as some shows x:windows\system32.
Is it because of windows version like say win 7, win 8 etc
My doubt is when we install, we select the installation media to access the menu and so, every window components are getting installed.
Once installed , if problem arises, in booting, then we resort to these commands.
Should not we execute the command from c:\, instead of x:\.
Someone reported that his boot problem has gone with executing the fixmbr, rebuildbcd from c: in the recovery mode.
and he faced the boot problem just executing it from x: .
I checked if I use those commands in c: in recovery mode, then also the commands getting executed successfully without any error as in x:
please clarify
