how do most SF users browse files/folders

I generally view them in the size window they opened with. Does anybody view them full screen?

I'm not sure what you are asking.

I have Windows Explorer set to open full screen (showing Details for most folders).

Open and Save dialogue windows open at whatever their default size is in Windows (showing Details for most folders).
As far as I'm aware, there is no way to change the default size of these windows (except manually after they have opened).

I'm asking about Windows Explorer. I'll have a window open and "medium icons" is what I normally use. But there are some folders that have a lot of files in them, causing me to scroll. I've always viewed them in what ever size window opened, never switching to full screen.

Just asking to see what other users preferences are.

Personal preference: "Details View" sorted by name and with preview pane toggled on/off as required.

If searching for files I use utilities other than windows search.

Fair enough.

One reason I prefer full screen is that I like to be able to see the full path of my current location.

Another reason I use full screen is that I despise horizontal scrolling (on my desktops).
The mouse wheel takes care of the vertical scrolling.

I despise all scrolling on laptops.

I use "Large Icons" on my Pictures partition, but I also chose my own Details so that I can sort images the way I want.

I suppose I don't always know what I am looking for and that is to me the purpose of search. For example:

- If I started something only last few days, then I would use details view in Recently Changed or Recent Places. I usually click on sort by date or file type, and details view is the only view that would allow me to do that.
- Sometime search indexing plays up, then I toggle out of details view and between other views until I can get search indexing working again.
- If I don't remember how well a topical document or image has been processed, then I would use Large or Extra Large Icons, or occasionally even switch on the preview pane.
- If I need to navigate a lot of folders and storage devices, then sometimes the Tiles view seems a bit more relevant.
- If I need to organize what file I put in what folder, then maybe list view is all I need to focus on and avoid distracting detail.

Seems to me to be the pattern of my preferences for Windows Explorer. I don't use Microsoft's search filters or user defined Tags that much. I'm sure these features should be there to be more helpful, however I usually resort to searching icons in my own simple-minded way.
