How do you connect a laptop with 2 wireless interfaces to 2 networks

Hi, i've been reading a lot about people using two connections to connect to two separate networks to increase speed, i use a mobile hotspot plus my own internet connection at home, i have a wifi card in my laptop and a usb wifi also, is it possible to connect my laptop wifi to my home internet and the usb wifi (usb 3.0) to the mobile hotspot? I know its possible but will it require third party software and if it is, are there any free solutions,

Sure it's possible, but you need to go into the IPv4 properties advanced settings in order to put in the static IP's and set up seperate subnets for the default gateways to get it all working. The link below explains it pretty well. You can get more info if you Google multihoming networks.

No third party software required so yes it's free but it will be two separate networks so probably won't work at the same time on the same interface so may not actually increase the internet speed but would allow you to direct traffic through the wired connection which would be faster.

Just so we are clear, this is for internet access from two networks, when one slows down the other picks up the pace?

Every solution ive managed to find so far is explaining things as being able to connect to two networks however every solution ends up being about turning your wifi card into two networks to share files or internet. I had a few issues with my wireless card but turns out the driver pre installed on my laptop which i bought new a few weeks ago, is actually for a totally different wireless card. Managed to set up a virtual wifi miniport but for all intensive purposes this is the same as setting up a ad hoc network for internet or file sharing.

The main reason for this is when i leave my laptop downloading overnight, occasionaly my wifi hotspot drops and i end up with an entire wasted night, along with occasional drops in speed, id like to have my second network connected as a fallback if one drops out (will also come in handy to prevent my minecraft server from dropping suddenly also)

I took a look at the multihoming solution but that doesnt seem to be what im looking for, mainly because its explaining it as two separate interfaces instead one wireless card and the only virtualwifi tutorials seem to be just doing what i said previously, setting up a ad hoc network basically

If the current wireless connection is dropping out there are ways to fix that with some adjustments to the router settings and the wireless profile in Windows. Properly configured wireless connections shouldn't just drop out for no reason.

You would need to have access to the wireless router in order to make these adjustments. I'd also need to see a screen shot of the wireless channels in your area using a program like Xirrus WIFI inspector. http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Wi-Fi-Inspector

Connection 1 is an unlimited plan wifi hotspot using htc wildfire s and connection 2 is either my girlfriends mums wifi (broadband) or my mifi at home, which for all intensive purposes IS a router in itself, with in fact more options for networking than other routers ive had

That's good then, just post a screen shot of the Xirrus WIFI inspector and I'll see what it says, it's better to use one connection that is set up correctly.

If you have access to the routers settings it should be easy enough to change a couple settings.

Just a quick update, I realised that i was over complicating things by trying to use the wifi-hotspot on my wildfire s, when it is just as capable of doing the same through its usb port, the port is usb 3.0 however i dont know if the cable or phone are capable of such speeds but it at least resolves my issue of being able to connect to both my phones data connection and the wifi, however i am going to still keep looking around for being able to connect to two wireless networks as it is still handy knowledge to have
