Hello everyone.

First time on the forum please feel free to redirect to proper place if I am in error.

I migrated from XP against my will to Windows 7 ...... with latest upgrade to CPU and Memory.

I am an old guy trying to survive in this new world.

My hobby is restoring old WW II Canadian military vehicle so I belong to specific grease monkey related restoration activity. The network is reall WWW.

I currently maintain an extensive personal library of pictures submitted my other likeminded old truck restorer and I keep pictures that I refer to and also share with new comers to the restoration hobby. Up until now I would go back to my old XP system used the right click, save as, and dump in my photo library under the suitable section. Then using a hard wire connection drag it across screens to my new Window 7.

I am tired of doing the round about way.

Why is it not easy, like it used to be in XP.....?

Totally frustrated

PS..... I am not very computer literate so be patient with the explanation.:o

Hello Bob, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You should be able to do it the same way in Windows 7.

1. Right click on image in IE.

2. Click on "Save picture as"

3. Navigate to and select the folder you want to save the image into. For example, in your "Pictures" library.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Clarification....

Thanks Shawn

Step one is to open IE .... which I read as Internet Explorer. I never use it and go to AOL directly as my service provider.

When I hit the big BLUE for IE I am told that I need an update and someone is trying to sell me a Registry Receiver program to get the update.

My right hand is reaching for a hammer !!!

I think I found the solution .....

Based on the info supplied by Shawn.

It seems that for some reason when I access my truck forum from AOL I cannot use the "save picture as" to save posted pictures to my library.....

BUT...... when using Internet Explorer to open the truck forum I can save all the pictures I want......

I think the issue is with AOL ....... which I will contact.

I have developed a dislike to IE since I am always delayed when opening it by usueless pop-up advertisement. I may have to learn to use that site to my advantage.

Thanks for your help Shawn

I may have created a monster....

I did open IE in no adds-on...... and for a brief moment was able to access my truck forum and copy pictures to my library....BUT then all hell had broken loose.

I have been bombarded by messages to update my Explorer Internet site...... when I follow through I get sucked in for downloads of third party registry clean up for $$$$. I am now getting messges that are freezing my system and had to shut down manually to clear the screen. I have been given different telephone numbers for technical assistance such as FastFix123 who claim to be partners of Microsoft..... they offer to walk me through a series of key strokes to remove the malware.... I just hang up as I have no way of verify the authenticity of their services of what cast will be associated.

Do I beat a quick retreat to AOL as my provider and forget about IE....?

Is my PC infested?

I regularly use AVG to whcih I have subscribed and paid for...... I am bombarded by messages from AVG that corrupt sites are trying to acess my computer... I instruct not to allow and it clears up.

Would hate to have some bug and be transmitting to friends or other forums.

What can I do????

I'd say that your computer may be infected.

If you like, download and install MalwareBytes Antimalware Free, then do a full scan of your system to see what it turns up. Let it clean whatever it finds.

If it's to bad, then you might consider doing a clean install of Windows 7 to help have a clean system.

I'd say that your computer may be infected.

If you like, download and install Macrium Reflect Free, then do a full scan of your system to see what it turns up. Let it clean whatever it finds.

Shawn, methinks you meant the free version of MalwareBytes AntiMalware (aka MBAM).

So far so good.

Stayed up late and did a major clean up running the diagnostics supplied by AVG. It allowed me to get rid of quite a few....so called free clean up program..... by menas of the full uninstall and remaining files were identified by AVG and also deleted.

so far this morning I have had NO interruptions or Pop-up adds while using AOL......

After a good hot cup of tea I will tackle IE and see what happens.

I am very P***** o** with all the trash false advertising seen on IE. I have changed my settings to "high block" agaisnt pop-up and itr seems to work at least on AOL.

I have a convoluted set up...... my cable company is Videotron.... so technically they are the ISP... they have very fast optic cabling..... BUT all my entry to the WWW is done by means of AOL..... to whuch I have been a loyal client since the early 90s ..... my not be the best these days but I am familiar with the set up and it seems to meet my needs. I have yet to push there button to find out why I can't use "save pictures as" using there system.

My next steps...... will check out IE the normal way
second step will then try again using Shawn's instruction to open IE in No add-on
3 step use the malware solution.

Stay tuned and thanks for all your help and patience.

Update .....

Used IE....... not as many adds now as before but still some coming in...

With the High Block option activated I can actually list the specific adds email address and they disappear.

However, there are always new ones and I beleive that I am fighting a loosing battle as I cannot possible list them all.

I have been able to use IE to access mu truck forum and it works fine....no more threathening "by our clean up system" and screen freeze.

Will now try the Malware free scan.

Keeping my fingers cross.

It's a Mawrickle ........

Computer is now so clean it's blowing bubbles from the cooling fan.

What a little knowledge can do.

I bow deeply in gratitude. Thanks for the help and for furthering the knowledge of an old man.

Until the next crisis I shall surf proudly.

Will monitor various threads to see what else I can learn and no doubt raise a flag if a have another crisis.
