If your NOT talking about Hotmail but you are using WLM (the application running on your PC) there is a registry setting that controls the initial font size for sending messages:
HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows Live Mail
Scroll down to the ValueName "Font Size"
Edit the HEX value, e.g.: "10 hex" produces "font=14" and "18 hex" produces "font=24".
[EDIT: See Darician's post below for a better way using Options.]

actually I was referring to hotmail. What I can gather THE FONT size cannot be fixed at 14 for all emails. That just doesn't sound correct. I can set a default size with my email provider but not in Hotmail ??

When using the Web Interface of Hotmail, you can't set a fixed size as default. However, when using a mail client such as Windows Live Mail to access your Hotmail e-mail, then you can set it within the options to default to a certain font and size.

thanks I'll give it a try... just off the subject a bit , it seems MS has created a jam up ( almost a monster) to provide a mail service in Win 7. Xp was just fine for mail ! Now we have Windows Live, Hotmail connected to Live and on it goes, what a shame . I'm still working on sending a web page to a friend without having to join yet another MS Windows service.
What I had to do was create a short cut on my home page and send the email from the short cut menu(right click) . I just refuse to have another MS mail/service running around. It seems to me that within another year MS will have Win 7 so full of ...... they will start all over again with a new OS and make a few more billions.
Apple ? maybe next time ! Thanks again WJ
