I put in a password for my account and after 10 minutes of in activity, the user is locked out and I have to enter my password.

How do i prevent this? I need the password because I am using LogMeIn (free remote computer access) and i am required to have a password, not a blank one.

I think he is referring about the "on resume" feature where you can set to require a password login upon resume from sleep/screen saver.

OP, can please provide more info like the exact scenario. Like what happened after x time of inactivity did your PC sleep ,hibernate, went to screen saver, etc...

Next question ... How can I make the computer login automatically to a passworded account without removing the password? Similar to the functionality TweakUI provided in WinXP.

I need this for my fiance's laptop (Vista) and figure it would be the same. Have never figured it out.

Not screensaver

I have disabled my screensaver, but I still get the login screen after a short time of no activity.

I have looked through user accounts and security profiles, searched a lot, but can't find any reference.

How to I stop lockout after inactivity?

thanks,

Have you tried enabling the screen saver, letting it do the 10 minute lock, then disabling the screen saver?

Is your computer connected to a domain?

Yes, I used to run with it enabled normally, but it was interfering with nonlinear editing tools. So, I disabled it, expecting it to alleviate the issue, then the other timer started popping

> Is your computer connected to a domain?

Not directly, but I do VPN to work, then RemoteDesktopCOnnection, then login to Domain, but I think that is buried inside RDC. It happen with or without VPN open.

But can't you log on a locked account with logmein? I remember doing it quite often in the times I used logmein. Nowadays though I use other means of connecting and remote controling my desktop.

If you do NOT have screensaver active WITH password option, there is a native screen lockout that is done after 10 minutes and no way to disable AFAIK(There probably is some secret registry key, but can't find it).

If you do not want screensaver, then best you can do is turn on screen saver, with password option, then set the time to really long(9999 minutes).

This will override the implicit lockout, but if it is a 365/24 unattended machine, you will hit it eventually.

This is the best you can do for now.

Right click on Desktop, go to Personalize, Screen Saver Settings, Change Power Settings, Require A Password on Wakeup (left side), Tick "Don't Require a Password" and Save Settings.

Windows 7 times out automatically to the login screen after 10 minutes to prevent other users from accessing your account. It also stops any program activity including downloads.

Thank you for answer to default screen saver time-out

Barman58,

Thank you very much for your answer aobut default screen saver time-out. Your answer worked perfectly.

Been near you at Aberaron just up north a few miles. when my wife and I found it several years ago it was a sleepy little fishing village, now it's so busy can't find a B&B, had to go five miles south to a farm B&B. All a beautiful area. You are lucky to live there. Best sunsets in the world.

Thanks.

Bill

Hi BucSox79

the 10 minutes sound like the default screen saver time-out,

Check personalise (right click desktop), Screen saver and un-check the "on resume display login screen"

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2109-screen-saver-change.html

and
