How does my Homegroup work without IPV6?

I have seen in the forums at least twice that IPV6 is required for Homegroups.

As part of my elimination of anything I didn't need when Homegroups didn't work for me, I disabled IPV6 on both systems. I subsequently discovered that when I removed Norton 360, everything worked. I never went back and turned IPV6 back on.

I haven't done a lot with the home network yet, but I haven't had anything fail... I checked, and it is still saying that IPV6 is disabled in the network properties for both systems.

How is my Homegroup working if IPV6 is required?

Please correct me if i am wrong. To my knowledge IPV6 is not required for anything within the US as of yet, so i wouldnt think there would be an issue there.

That was why I disabled it, but I have been surprised in two different threads about Homegroup, two different people said that IPV6 was required. The question was really more rhetorical, with a hope that someone would explain why some people are under the impression that IPV6 is required for Homegroup...

My initial guesses are that either a beta version required IPV6 and it lives on in some minds, or turning on IPV6 bypasses a potential configuration issue in IPV4 which has given some people the impression that IPV6 is required.
