How does P6X58D E mobo respond to 2x XMP/1600 ramsticks per channel ?

Awaiting delivery of Asus P6X58E D motherboard, i7 9300, Kingston KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX memory, Saphire 5450 1G hypermem graphics, and doing advance checks

The Asus memory qualified vendors list (QVL) indicates that I can populate all six slots using two kits of three modules, each kit being type KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX (XMP), making a total of 12 GB. However, the Asus handbook also states "Due to Intel spec definition, XMP DIMMS and DDR-1600 are supported for one DIMM per channel only" so exactly how does the motherboard respond if I follow the QVL with the above 12 GB memory using two DIMMS in each channel ? Do I have to set something in the BIOS or will it simply adapt by cranking the speed down to 1333 and ignoring the XMP ?

Your MB supports triple channel RAM. If you put your 3 Dimms in the manufacturers required slots. You will indeed be running 1 Dimm per channel. Your board supports 2000MHz Ram, so running 1600MHz should be no issue, and it will run at it's native setting. Should the board not automatically run the RAM at 1600MHz, then a simple BIOS setting will change that. A Guy

Thanks, but the question related to how the motherboard reacts to having two sets of 3x2 GB kits, ie 12 GB RAM in total, the recommended RAM being XMP/1600.

My apologies, I just became one of those guys who answers a question that wasn't asked I looked at you Ram Specs and missed the 2nd part about using 6 Dimms. I truthfully do not have the answer to that question, sorry :shock:

Based on what I've read it should be able to use 12GB without any serious issues. Based on the info you provided I would say that if you increased the memory beyond the 6GB you plan on using, XMP and 1600 RAM sticks will not function to their full extent. Based on what I've read, the mobo might just use the 12GB as 1333 as you suggest. Keep in mind that it might. It may also try to run all of it as 1600 which could/would lead to a number of problems.
