How does system recovery work

well I allready started the downloads but actually I am particiapating in the 741 program so I am upgrading

Don't worry about the updates. You are not actually updating Vista as an OS. You are replacing it.

Precisely as Antman says. If you are doing this "half clean" install, you don't need SP2. Just the first round of updates.
