How does Windows determine disk #

I was very careful to plug my boot disk into port 0
The disk I would use most into port 1
The disk I would use least into port 2 (on motherboard)

But Windows is not reading it that way. It has it reversed. I have tried changing the boot order in the BIOS. It would not matter since neither have boot files on them. It stayed the same. Is there some way to change this? It's not to important but I would like to know for future builds.

So disk 2 (D & E) here is plugged into port 1 on the motherboard and disk 1 (F) is plugged into port 2. For future reference what determines this?

There should be a setting in the BIOS that determines which HDD goes in what order, and im pretty sure you can change it, or if not, have a look in your motherboard manual and see what order it has set port 1 and port 2 etc.

I did both of those things. I have changed the order in the BIOS and made sure they are placed into the corresponding ports on the motherboard. That's why I can't figure out why Windows 7 is reporting this. It shouldn't make a difference but I would like them to be in order. I am probably overlooking something.

Tried switching the ports around? So the dual partition is in port 2 and the single partition on port 1.

I didn't but they are in order. Maybe I will try it to see what happens. Thanks for the idea. I though it may be something I was overlooking that Windows was doing. I will try that this week and see what happens.
