How important are File Timestamps?

Hey all, just wondering how important the file timestamps are.

Since copying my files from drives to drives I've noticed that these have been altered. I have some where the files have a modified time before a created time.

I've lost my original created times. I've had some files that were created in 2004 now showing as created in 2012.

Would this cause any problems at all?

Any help would be appreciated.

No they won't cause problems...just metadata.

When you copy a file to a new drive, it will show the creation time as the time it was copied over. This is what causes the creation time to be later than the last modified time. It's just a result of the copying process. If you want to keep the original creation times, you can choose to move the files instead of copying them.
