Could someone please explain to me how this can be done when Windows 7 requires a certain amount of memory to install or run?

Windows 7 Hits a New Low - PC World

I guess what I am saying is that I myself tried to install 7 on an "older" machine but it would not let me due to insufficient memory. So how did this person get around that?

I have answered my own question, the solution was the following:

You need 512MB to install, but once installed you can remove RAM.
If you have XP/Vista installed, install Win7 using setup /nm /im
I'm guessing the switches tell it to ignore the memory requirements

Well that not a hack, anyone can install a os with the required ram then remove it a real hack would be to install the new os with the ram being under what windows wants.

Who said anything about a hack?? And if you use those switches apparently you can install it with less than 512.

Yes I am going to mess with those switches and see what happens, which means I would have to have a current os installed on the machine. I wonder if I where to load win95/98 then try to install with those switches would it error out due to the OS version or continue, without a memory check as we both are thinking about.
Another thought what about a modified boot loader with those switches already added so when you boot a Windows 7 DVD to install it will not do the memory check.
