You've turned off hibernation, that's a start. Now it's always best to move the "Paging File" to another partition. Preferably onto a second HDD. Windows works better when the Paging File is on another partition. You can do that through the Disk Management section of the "Administrative Tools" section in the Control Panel. Make the partition about 20% bigger than your Paging File and it'll all be good.

Turn off System Restore as it chews up quite a bit of HDD space on the C drive. Most users will turn off that function as it changes alot and can cause the drive to become defragmented more often. I use Acronis True Image to back up the C drive to another HDD, usually an external one.

That will free up several gigs of space for ya!

Your pagefile size is determined by how much RAM you have. So, if you have more ram than your buddies, your pagefile.sys will be larger than theirs...and I do believe that is a hidden file.

With regards to system restore...I don't think I would turn it off. But I did go in and change mine to only consume 2% of my hard drive rather than 5%. That provides me with plenty of space to still use the functionality when a bad driver torques up my system.
