My hard drive died. My recovery disks were for Vista, so after getting a new drive and running them, I upgraded to Windows 7, which is what I had done before. I established my user profile of TVZ. I created a "TVZ" folder under "Users", then put all my backed up files in it. However, none of my favorites, desktop, etc., showed up for me. Looking in Windows Explorer, I saw that for all the folders under “Favorites” and “Libraries” (at the top of the list), when I looked at “Properties”, the location was a folder called "TVZ.Owner-PC".

Should I rename my “TVZ” folder as “TVZ.Owner-PC”? or is there a way that I should redesignate the location where Windows looks for my favorites & Libraries stuff—tell it to look in my “TVZ” folder? Or move everything to the “TVZ.Owner-PC” folder that seems to have been created automatically under “Users”?

Thanks much in advance for any guidance you can offer.

Hi and welcome.

Your favorites are stored in the location:

\windows\[user name]\favorites

Did you include this location within your backups? If not then, I'm sorry but you've lost them. If you did, then copy the contents of that folder to your new windows installation.

Thanks for the reply UKMedia. Actually, I use Chrome so (as I understand it) my "favorites" are irrelevant. However, I've lost my desktop, app data, etc. In Windows Explorer I can see that they are under Users\TVZ. However my computer doesn't seem to be looking in that folder. I don't know where it is looking, since I created a desktop item and checked for it in Explorer under the other Users that exist for some reason (such as TVZ.Owner-PC)--but didn't see it anywhere. How can I make the computer find the stuff I have in my Users\TVZ folder?

Thanks again.
