Hi all,

I'm trying to re-image my computer to a new harddisk, which is about 90GB, however it seems that I stuck at the ending stage (The running bar is full).

The harddisk led keep on for a few hours and I don't know what's going on. I did not get any error message. Is that normal?

Thanks!

Hello am5a03

Its a bit of an ambiguous question as a lot depends on hardware, what data is on the drive and what imaging program you used and where the image is stored.
Its my guess you used the native windows imaging program so for an example to re-image an 80gig system partition, 58% full from an external HDD (usb2) takes 25-30 minutes on my netbook.
A few hours for 90 gig seems a long time to me.

The fact that the bar stuck at 100% for a long time suggests that the imaging process could not be closed for some reason. Danny is correct on the timing it should not take several hours. It might be worth retrying the restore to see if it terminates properly this time. If you have another image it might be worth trying that also.

That has happened to me once before where it stalls at the end.Just out of interest and for others that may have the same issue how long did the re-image take.

Glad its sorted

I have about 120GB on my C and D drives that I am trying to create a system image of. I left it running overnight and it has not moved. I am putting the image onto my USB hard drive - is this taking too long?

Hi Kellylout and welcome to Seven Forums. I take it you are using Windows Backup rather than a third party tool. It does seem too long for 120GB of data. I would have expected 1-2hours. Could you post a screenshot of it running. It would also help us to help you if you could load your system specs. You can get details of how to do these things in this thread .http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/8-forum-rules-info-please-read.html

Is that a clue in the background? "Windows cannot find the disk or network location".

OK I understand. Run resmon.exe and post a picture of the disk tab. Try to show the disk you are writing to by sorting by file.

It is writing to it just very slowly. This is what I get with wbengine filtered.

What sort of external disk are you writing to?

It was mentioned earlier that the drive was making a noise. Lets check to see that this noise is not abnormal : run this little utility to check the health of the disks, and post a maximised image of the screen:

CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World

Another friendly reminder : get those system specs posted using the tutorial.

Regards,
Golden
