I upgrade in the following

CPU Every Second Release as performance is normally 10-15% better with AMD :p

Graphics Upgrade When Needed/ Meaning If i notice capability issues and/or Problems with games on Ultra Settings

Ram Upgrade only if there is an improvement that is noticeable with System/PC which 9 out of 10 there is no difference Only on BENCHMARKS

Motherboard Upgrade only when CPU has changed to a different Socket Type

PSU Upgrade minimal/ when its required and 100% needed i will upgrade

I as most people don't have money just sitting there. I just don't get why you would get every next release for such a small improvement Meaning lets say someone had the FX-8150 and then decided to buy the next FX-8350 for such a small increase in speeds

I wanna know People's Thoughts on this and would you consider yourself to be a component Upgrade *Freak

*sorry if this offends anyone

So much depends on the mobo. If I can upgrade and still use the mobo then the cost is controlled but when a complete mobo and CPU rethink is in order that normally requires a rethink of finances.

I am aiming for the AMD Excavator mainly for its performance only if there is a really big difference I would/will leave it on hold and do some reading look at true benchmarks etc

I set some cash beside so if i have problems with current set up i don't have to worry but only for small things i have not got grands in the bank

Obviously if i can get all current components to work with components in 2015 then all is cool but the chance of that is thin

But time will tell i'f i stay with AMD or go Intel

AMD Good for price Negative Performance

Intel Good for Performance Negative for me Price

Intel and AMD are good a different Things

I would also like to say i don't Faver Any CPU company nor Do i Like one over the other

I buy CPU'S on Price

I had been an AMD user for years until I built my current system. Night and day difference in performance. Intel runs the whole system faster...noticeably so, not just benchmarks.
Since AMD announced they will put their emphasis on graphics I doubt they will have a decent CPU out.

An SSD will make your system very fast and responsive as well no matter what CPU you have. ;)

4 years since the XFX build, but I was always upgrading it. My latest will last awhile, but it still needs, or should I say I want, a few more parts.

I've been with AMD for years, the X2 series has served me well, price was low too!I upgraded when Bulldozer came out (thinking of the radical new structure) - but it's been kind of a mixed result. I won't upgrade to Piledriver until I have saved up enough to buy a decent 125W TDP mobo.

My 9600GT was an all out winner. When it went bust, I upgraded to my recent card...may upgrade because of significant improvements in power management/consumption.

I am in the mentally insane camp. I upgrade far too often and usually when I get bored :o

I sell all my old parts which offsets a very large portion of the costs of the new parts.

:o I only got my first pc in 2010 and since then have gone through a fair bit of hardware.
3x mobo, 3x case, 4gpu's, 3cpu's,3psu's, 2sets ram, 5monitors, 2 cpu air and 3 closed loop coolers, 3mouse's, 7keyboard's, 4 headset and 2 surround setups. Plus all the little things we forget about lol.
I just bought things when i found something i liked more than what i had at the time and a lot was down to boredom as i'm stuck in the house most of the time so upgrading/ building my rig is a hobby as it is with a lot of other's. I used it all to learn as much as i could too but now i've slowed down on the buying and plan to upgrade as and when needed. Well maybe :P
I still have a small list of upgrades needed / wanted though.

I was always really good with my hands, Making things with wood or building cars. I had to be out busy doing something and have always loved learning so i need something to keep my mind active while being stuck indoors. I started off just wanting a rig for gaming so payed a shop to build me one but wasn't happy with the result. Thats where the slippery began :P
I was the opposite to you as me and electricals have never mixed, My mrs had to tell me how to wire a plug :o but that all changed once i got a pc and now can't get enough of it.
