How much GB graphics card to install?

Hello.
I just increased my RAM upto 5GB. It was 3GB before.
I have a 64bit Windows 7 OS. I wish to install a graphics card. How much capacity should i buy?

Ps: To clarify, I want to use my PC for gaming. So should I buy a 1 GB card or more than that?

Even I was thinking 2 GB. haven't decided which one. I have to go check the store. But what do you mean by 'held back by the CPU'?

the weakest compoment of your computer will be its bottle neck. what this means is that it will not allow the other components to work at their fullest.

in this case a weak cpu will bottleneck a high end gpu, meaning that the cpu cant keep up with the work that the gpu is demanding, resulting in the gpu not working at its maximum.

whats your budget for a graphic card? as companies tend to stick lots of ram on budget cards to make them more appealing to novices. for example a nvidia gt 710 2gb would be way way slower than a gtx 750 1gb. bigger numbers dont often result in better performances which some people find out the hard way.

for games id look at either a gtx 750ti or an r7 260 as a starting point, spend less and youll struggle with games at even the lower setting.
