How much RAM Win7 32bit can support?

Hi everyone. First i would like to thanks people on SevenForums they are very helpful and i found this forum very nice and i think this is the best place to get help for Windows 7. I want to know how much RAM Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit can support? Right now i have 2GB but i am planning to get another 2GB later to make 4GB in total

4GB is the maximum amount of address space that can be accessed by a 32-bit system. The actual amount of memory available for use will depend on the hardware in your system, as this also needs to be mapped in to that 4GB address space. This typically leaves between 3.25 and 3.75 GB of available (useable) memory.

While your question has a few factors as the bios of your system can depend on how much ram you can have.

However its always been said that beyond 4gb of Ram your doing no good. Your board may hold 16gb but unless your running a x64 OS your only going to see 4gb. And i believe windows only actually uses 3.3gb. Someone Correct me if Im Wrong.

So the answer im going to give you is Max 4GB while your board may support more x32 will only show 4gb.

Im very suprised and happy for a very quick response I have only 2 slots for RAM in my motherboard. So i was wondering to install another module. It means i can run 4GB max as u said thank you very much for the help Dwarf and TonyTiger2004 much appreciated.

When you buy the other two GB, be sure that it is a match to your motherboard and better yet, get the same kind that is in there already. Mismatched RAM can cause problems.

You could also look into switching to Windows 7 x64. You already have a license for it.

I will recommend this forum to all my friends for sure thanks once again.

No problem and as suggested due to try make sure that the ram you get is compatible and the same type is pretty important as well. Different types of ram have different latency and different memory timings. SO i would recommend the exact same ram installed or get 4gb of all new ram (not very expensive) anymore.

And it would be a decent idea to upgrade your OS since indeed you do have a license already.

I agree : you should try x64 over x86. I don't think you will be dissapointed.

ok i will get the exact same model of ram will also try to switch over 64bit version if i plan to jump above 4GB RAM. I usually play RPG Games like Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect etc. so sometimes i feel like i need more ram for better loading. Thank you all for help and suggestions i will be update by posting as i will get ram and will get more help before getting on 64bit OS.
