I recently installed Zinstall which was recommended that it would allow you to create a partition for your old XP so you could also install Win7 and XP would be a separate virtual computer.

Although it mostly worked, it had several major problems and out of frustration I decided to remove it thru the control panel.

However, now I am left with a working Win7 and No way to reach my old XP partition to bring forward some of the folders other than thru a recent backup.

Is there any solution to this access dilemma?

Post a snapshot of a fullscreen Disk Management:

To open Disk Management, press Windows key+r, type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter or click GO. Make it full screen. Expand the fields as necessary so everything can be seen.

Vista and Windows 7: How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista - Vista Forums (says it's for Vista but also works with Win 7/8).

Once you have the image saved, click on the Paperclip Icon next to the Smiley Icon. In the Manage Attachments window, click Browse and navigate to where you saved the image and select it.
Click the Upload button.
Close the Manage Attachments window.
Click on the Paperclip Icon again and select the image you uploaded. It will be placed in your post.

Ztruker,

I posted the DM pic.
It appears that I have just the one C partition.

Upon further inspection, it also looks that all my XP stuff was brought into the Win7 directory which I guess is better than not having access to it at all.

Thanks for your help.

Is the XP stuff under Windows.old or something similar? As you said, at least you can access it, though not boot and use it.

Ztrucker,

There is nowindows.old

Zinstall is a rather crude sw (may even be a beta, I'm not sure). When it was first installed, all the Xp stuff appeared in both the XP and Win7 partitions and because I was contending with other problems they created, I was never quite sure whether my XP files in Win7 were duplicated or just visible in both partitions somehow.

Anyhoo, I can at least transfer them out to a second XP comp I have for now.

Zinstall looks interesting but $119 is a bit steep for me.

At any price, it's still not ready for prime time as far as I am concerned.
