Mary you can paste the results all in one code box by clicking on the # symbol on reply box toolbar and pasting your results between the code tags.

The TDSSKILLER did not find any viruses.

marysilver,

On your Save as and perhaps other issues, try the following, using Option 2 to Scan and Repair System files:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
If there are files that SFC cannot fix automatically, follow Option 3.

Will following those instructions delete anything on my computer? What does the warning mean when it says "theme"?

At this point, my personal assessment of your situation is the following:

Whatever virus or malware was taking over the computer, IMO, it caused irreparable damage to the system.
Just the possibility of having Win32.Fareit seriously compromises your computer, and a variant of this trojan steals passwords.

If this computer is a Dell, and has a Dell Recovery Partition, would consider pursuing the following:
https://neosmart.net/wiki/dell-recovery-partition/

Follow the instructions to: Access the recovery partition in Windows 7
It will reformat the hard drive and restore system software to factory condition.

May consider it if the situation with the computer worsens.

Thank you so much for all your help! It was educational.

Thank you gregrocker. Didn't realize there was a way to overcome the 2,000 character limit. I'll do that next time.

No luck with TDSSKiller...nothing found.

Let's give Malwarebytes Anti-Malware a whirl.
Download > https://www.malwarebytes.org/products/
Select the FREE version!
Save to the Desktop.

On the Desktop. double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install (X's = current version)
Allow the file to run.
Follow the setup wizard to Install.

Place a checkmark next to Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click: Finish
However, please make sure to uncheck the PREMIUM version Trial checkmark, if it appears near the end of the installation.

Once MBAM opens, click the Settings tab at the top, and, in the left column, select Detections and Protections
If not already checked, select: Scan for rootkits
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, and select: Threat Scan

Next, click: Scan Now
If you receive a message that updates are available, click: Update Now
At this point, the update is downloaded, installed, and the scan starts.
The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.

If potential threats are detected, select Quarantine All as the Action for all the listed items.
Next, click: Apply Actions

While still on the Scan tab, click the link for View detailed log
In the window that opens, click the Export button, select Text file (*.txt), and save the log to the Desktop.

:ar: Please post the MBAM report in your reply.

Notes:
1. The log is automatically saved by MBAM and is also viewed by clicking:
History tab > Application Logs.
2, If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove...
Click OK and allow MBAM to proceed with the disinfection process.
If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

On:
Will following those instructions delete anything on my computer?
SFC scans and repairs system files, it does not remove files.

What does the warning mean when it says "theme"?

Can you provide more info on the above?
Is SFC giving this warning???

Fine for me...I'm retired!
Thanks, I'll try that scan tomorrow.

I just meant this warning:
"Be aware that if you have modified your system files as in theming explorer/system files, running sfc /scannow will revert the system files such as explorer.exe back to it's default state. Make the appropriate backups of your system files that you have modified for theming if you wish to save them before running sfc /scannow."

Ah! OK..

It just means that if you have modified your system files in order to add custom themes to your operating system, running sfc /scannow will revert the system files such as explorer.exe back to it's default.

Those results do not appear to identify files in need of repair. However, I do not have much knowledge in handling these reports.

Any luck running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?
Results?

It found a "PUP.Optional.Salus.C"

I deleted it.

There were two different types of logs, one a protection log and one a scan log. Here are both:

Code:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

It is entirely possible that I may have deleted an important program from the computer in the frantic rush to delete the virus/PUP as it was spreading. I might research which programs handle:

-mouse clicking problems
-mouse highlighting
-mouse click and drag
-mouse close out of windows
etc.

Those are the main problems. The sound and the occasional frozen mouse I can live with.

For example, moving (click and drag) a website url into a "bookmarks" folder is a long 30 second process, when it used to take 5 seconds. Often times the website link ends up in the wrong folder or on the top browser before I drop it into the correct spot. The control over the mouse isn't there like before...

Exiting out of one internet window often exits out of two instead of just the one.

If it wasn't for the viruses and the freezing, I'd probably blame it on the mouse and buy a new one.

Often times with infection resulting in damaged System files, it's easier to cut your losses and run Dell Windows 7 PC Restore or do the Clean Reinstall Windows 7 . If you want I will walk you through the booted part of a reinstall until you can get online to install TeamViewer and then will connect to set it up for you all perfectly optimized.

Another thing that can be done with damaged System Files if they will not self-repair after running SFC /SCANNOW Command a few times is to do a Repair Install. This keeps all of our programs and files in place but reinstalls the OS, so it would probably take only slightly less time than doing Recovery or a Reinstall.

As to mouse: If a portable mouse, change battery. There may also be a Reset button on the bottom.

Then uninstall the Mouse in Device Manager, reboot to reinstall.

Try another mouse to compare.

gregrocker, thank you.

I only did the SFC /SCANNOW Command once. I'll try that again this week.

Before I think about Dell Windows 7 PC Restore or the Clean Reinstall Windows 7 I need to buy a 2 terabyte back up drive for all the files.

Had no idea mouses had batteries. I'll look into replacing or fixing the mouse just eliminate it as a possibility.

Is there a way to copy and paste all the processes and services in the "Windows Task Manager" so I can post the list here? When I had the virus attack, Windows Task Manager was the only place the viruses showed up. There's a possibility that some of those processes and services are malware.

There are 95 processes and probably around 170 services.

Is it normal for firefox to have a memory of 700,000 k without any activity or downloading? I still don't know how someone was using my internet explorer internet access... and in the Windows Task Manager applications I could watch it only going to storefront websites every 10 seconds. That sounds like a program is using my internet access for online marketing/advertising revenue etc. Keep in mind, I rarely use internet explorer so clearly someone hijacked my internet connection for their own uses.

Download, install declining trial and run a full scan with SUPERAntiSpyware. Later in Preferences turn it off at Startup.

Type msconfig in Start Search box, in msconfig>Startup and msconfig>Services (after Hiding all MS Service) uncheck everything except your AV and synch. I would use a free lightweight AV like MSE until you determine what's causing trouble.

In each of your browsers, on the Tools tab select Add-On's or Extensions and disable all except Shockwave Flash.

I have some time tomorrow afternoon if you want to install TeamViewer Download at all defaults and private message back to me Your ID and password, leave it open on Desktop. I can connect and go over your install for you from top to bottom.

marysilver,

gregrocker is your best bet.

He knows how to optimize, and knows the best installation mode for any situation, if you were to chose that route.
