How See Digital Clock From Task Bar Clock?

In the task bar, when I click on the clock, how can I make the clock window that pops show me a digital clock?


Currently, it shows me an image of a legacy round analog clock.

It would be interesting, perhaps, to read a brief history of time pieces. The only reason I can fathom to have created the 12 hour clock in the first place must have been to get 2 rotations of the arms for greater accuracy. Continuing to produce them seems yet another example of "backward compatibility" being backward in more ways than one.

edit: according to Wiki I'm totally wrong. Oh well.. another semi-plausible theory bites the dust. I'm not sure if it's AM dust or PM dust though.

I remember reading a local online newspaper article about this a while back. I read it twice to make sure that it wasn't an April Fools' joke or something from The Onion.

Actually, since I need reading glasses now, if I don't have my glasses on, I can see and interpret the hands on an analog clock much more easily than I can read the numbers on a digital clock. When I am at my computer, however, I am invariably wearing my glasses, so I can read the numbers.

I'm the same way. I used to work Renaissance Festivals and kept an analog wrist watch under my sleeve where I could sneak a peek to get the time (I usually was on a schedule). I didn't wear my trifocals while working a festival (although I kept a pair of readers handy for when I absolutely had to be able to see). The watch had a large dial face (for a woman's watch) that I could read the time from even without my glasses. The numbers were blurry blobs but I knew what they were from where the blobs were.

It's the same at home. I don't sleep with my glasses on but I can still read an analog clock face when I wake up, even though it's a blur.

This isn't possible with the built in clock. Possibly a third party clock will do this but I don't know of any.

The customized clocks in the link all had the analog clock embedded. That leads me to believe you are right. That's why I suggested AutoHotkey may be the best way. If it detects you clicked on the clock it may "eat" the mouse click, allowing you to bring up some custom digital clock.

edit: of course detecting which thing you clicked in the tray isn't the most fun in AHK. I suspect it varies widely with the windows version as the taskbar class names tend to change.
