Hi, I have MSI-GT725-074US laptop with built in 4+1 speaker system for 3 years now. I had no problems before cos msi supported dolby drivers was working. I did a clean w7 install yesterday and seems dolby's utility aint working(crashing) with W7 64 bit. And only 2 speakers are working atm. How can I activate the other 2 speakers and the (mini)sub woofer?

I installed latest realtek drivers, went into control panel+sound settings and changed settings to quadraphonic/5.1/7.1 and tried/tested them but no sound from additional speakers. Also there is a dolby tab in properties; I checked "sound space expander" and "Natural Bass" there but no help.

Thanks in advance.

Having a look at the specs on it at MSI site, it seems to have Vista pre-installed on it. Is that the way yours came? If so did you run MS 7 upgrade advisor first before installing 7? It diffently sounds like a sound driver issue wether it be a vista or 7 driver.

yes tho, I formatted it right away and installed win7. I've always used win7 x32 with this laptop. Dolby used to work just fine till last format(to x64). now when I try to use dolby's application it just crashes. What I dont understand is why win7 doesnt recognize all the speakers?

It seems msi stopped supporting this model so did dolby. Tho, there never been a dolby driver on official site, It came in a CD. I even tried other brands dolby tools(lenovo/asus) no help from them either.

It's not that big loss but when there are 2 more speakers and a sub woofer I cant use... >> http://www.msimobile.com/imageb.ashx?id=133

I fully understand how you feel when things worked perfectly fine before. Your guess is as good as mine as to why they don't support it anymore. It's generally about the cost/effectiveness in maintaining personnel and time required to keep updating, when it's more cost effective (cheaper) to build a new product. Ah, the life of laptops.
