Would having a fake Windows 7 really stop incoming network connections? I suppose it could if the internal server thingies aren't present/properly configured.

I went into the router settings and added a new entry where HTTP Server (World Wide Web) was assigned to this computer. But still, using the public IP and trying to get through won't work.

Please post a screenshot of the port forwarding screen you just touched. Obviously there is something there not correctly configured. That screen (and your local IP and firewall) should be the only things you need really. I still don't get why you reformated just for this?
