How to backup my WEBSITE???

Gang, website development/maintenance is definitely not my forte'
I need to get smart on the topic of backing one up, so that it can be shuttered, reworked, redeployed on a different host.

I'm assuming a few things but could be dead wrong so pls correct:
- Depends on several factors including the toolkit/package used for developing, the host [their services], and of course size of the pile
- Do I want to backup ALL the data, or just the code base?
- Or Do I just want to retain the look/feel, media content, id's/credentials?
- Do I want to archive it on my local drive/LAN/SAN/NAS, or move it directly to cloud storage

I bet all the above matters somehow, but help me simplify

I have had a website for about 15 years. I built the site on my PC and uploaded to a webhost. If the webhost should go down (which has happened to me) I still have the files on my PC. I just uploaded again to the new webhost. I backup the files on my PC to make sure they are protected. But even if you did not have your web files backed up, you could just copy them from your webhost and you have a current copy on your PC again. I keep all files on my PC along with old changed versions. I feel safe as long as my files are backed up from my PC.
