How to backup updates?

Hello,

Please tell me how to backup all updates which are already installed in my OS?

My OS is windows 7 professional x86..

And how can i restore it?:huh:

Keep in mind that if you download the updates from the update catalog you will likely end up installing them one by one and rebooting almost every time. A painfully slow process. Downloading SP1 would be a big step in the right direction if you don't have an integrated install disk. That would save you some time on windows update. I also like to download the latest DirectX full version, Silverlight (if you use it), IE 9, Dot Net Framework 4, etc, and save them to a thumbdrive. Microsoft Security Essentials too if you use it.
Another option would be to install Windows, all your drivers, and then hit windows update. Then when its fully patched, save an image of your hard drive with something like Acronis True Image. Then the next time you have to do a re-install just restore the image.

Instead of backing up the updates, you should consider creating an image of your machine that you could use to restore. This will save you lots of work.

Yep...knowing that there's near hundred updates by now....You might like better downloading the SP1 stand-alone installer in two days.

The average joe is not going to have a new standalone installer in 2 days. They are going to have the service pack itself. I guess they can slipstream the SP into the ISO themselves.

Its nice having an integrated SP1 DVD but its not the end of the world if you don't. Installing the standalone full version after a clean install only takes a little more of your time. To me "stand alone full installer" means the full separate down loadable version of just SP1. All the files are there to install SP1 offline with no need for an Internet connection.

I would suggest following pparks1's advice. If you, for some reason, don't want to download updates, then a system image is your best bet.

You already have been suggested the way, using the Download Catalog. However, others have warned you that there are far better methods, and using updates from the Catalog will take MUCH longer than just getting them from Windows Update or using an SP1 installer.

Is your internet connection slow? Is that why you refuse to use better methods? What are you trying to accomplish by making all of this extra work for yourself?

That makes more sense than this : Microsoft Update Catalog I have narrowed the updates to critical and there are 52 of them. With a slow connection it will be a very long process! That's not the way to go! Acronis disk image is not free, but Macrium-Reflect is! You can create a system image using it. Link : Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download
Using Macrium is easy too! It may not be a walk in the park in the early days, but at least you can jog along fine with it! There are tutorials for Mac-Ref : www.macrium.com/tutorial.asp

How about the brief history of mankind in a few words. You aren't making this very easy on people trying to help you.

It's a Service Pack, which primarily means it is a rollup of all the security updates to this point. That makes me wonder why you discard and ignored the suggestions to use SP1 from the beginning, and then you later ask what it is? How can you dismiss a suggestion if you don't know what's being suggested?

The point was, instead of needing to download 70+ individual updates, just get SP1. On a clean install of Windows 7, you would follow that up by installing SP1, and then you are pretty much up to date. There's no need to download each individual security update, despite the fact you insisted on wanting to do that.

In short, if you aren't sure of something...ask before you start dismissing good suggestions.
