How to block all programs having internet access except specific ones?

I think Windows Firewall can be "told" to block internet access for X programs; however, I think this has to be done on each EXE. If there is a 3rd-party utility that would be "click this, click that, to block" -- I do not know what it is. I just read the SuperUser thread, it looks promising!

Parental controls available in most windows versions can control what applications are usable by specific users, (has to be a standard user to prevent them changing the limitations ), and can use a white list that stops everything except those you want to run.

If you wish to allow programs to run but not access the net then I would agree that a firewall is the way to go, although I would suggest something "more" advanced that the built in firewall - I use Comodo Firewall and this also has a whitelist system to prevent access to the web (whetelists are much easier to allow limited access rather than blocking all except a limited number of programs)

An app that can do that is here:

Block any app from accessing Internet with one click in Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7

However that's not the same as blocking everything by default then adding exclusions. I don't use Windows Firewall (I use Comodo FW)

@OP

You can use Evorim alongside Windows Firewall - free but ad supported.

Free Firewall

I suggest the following:

Once installed Evorim's startup entry can be removed. Also the firewallsvce can be stopped (when Evorim FW is not running) and the service can be set to demand start.

When used as a run on demand firewall (in addition to windows firewall) you can put Evorim in "Paranoid Mode" to block everything except what you want to allow.

Callender, how does Winareo OneClick Firewall work? I installed it into my Windows 7 Pro, and was I supposed to Restart immediately afterwards? There was no icon, nothing except an uninstall directory made by the install EXE.

It only works with Windows Firewall. I hope that you understood that it will not work with Comodo Firewall (I currently use Comodo FW)

Anyway assuming that you downloaded and installed the application correctly it just creates a right click context menu entry for executables. So locate a program's executable that you want to block and right click it for the option to block from internet - like you see in the demo video on the website.

EDIT: In other words there should be no desktop or start menu icon and no program to launch in order for it to work. Find an executable and right click it. Look the menu that opens.

Thanks Callender! Windows Firewall, Winaero Firewall, FreeFirewall now active.
I have been using Windows Firewall for some time now. No more Comodo Firewall.

No problem. I installed it anyway just to test. It won't work without Windows Firewall but here's what I see for a traced install.

Then once installed right clicking an executable shows this:

Now to uninstall it!

You could try TinyWall, free and lightweight.

It uses Windows Firewall to allow/block apps. It has very simple user interface to configure the firewall. Just give it a try.
