i got small problem in training center
because some student is using the internet even if i teach yahoo
is there a program or in router config to block the internet "especially facebook"
example if the time 9-11am is only yahoo messenger lesson they cant access the explorer or firefox???
did you get my point?
should it be done computer by computer or just the router...
when i teach the hardware i just turn off the router but if i teach the yahoo,skype,live... i want to disable the firefox and explorer

this one work in per computer but its time consuming for 30 computer each
Open Windows Firewall with Advanced Security
Click Outbound Rules (on the left side)
Click Make New Rule (on the right side)
Make sure "Program" is selected and click Next
In "This Program Path" go to your Firefox Folder and click Firefox.exe
Block the Connection, then you'll have 3 choices I usually leave them all selected.
Name it.

Hello,

Yes, you may block unwanted sites and restrict browsing hours from the router. Depending on the type of router that you have, some do have advanced features. Pls check out this link on how to set restrictions, including other ways too.
How to Block Websites | Restrict Internet Access

A Security/firewall device such as Sonicwall would do a lot more. The Content Filtering feature would be the best option for you. Of course this is just an option, it can be pricey.

Hope this helps.

I teach a lot of classes and I used to spend many hours setting up/reconfiguring the computers for each class, blocking facebook, twitter, etc. or imaging machines, making special boot disks, working with the network administrator to block stuff, etc. etc. etc.

After a while I just stopped doing all that and wasting all my time. At the beginning of the class on day one I hand out a rule list. Similar to this:

This is a NO Tolerance class.

First offence you will be asked to leave the class for the day.
Second offence you will be asked to never return to class.

#1 If you are getting a grade for this class you will receive an F or failed grade if
#a use any social media in class
#b you email or use other applications that are not part of this class
#c text, call, or use a cell phone

#2 If you have paid for this class you will NOT receive any type of refund if
#a use any social media in class
#b you email or use other applications that are not part of this class
#c text, call, or use a cell phone

#3 If you required to attend this class you will be required to leave if (negative letter to follow)
#a use any social media in class
#b you email or use other applications that are not part of this class
#c text, call, or use a cell phone

After handing this out everything stopped and we have great classes. About every other class of 50 I get one idiot that tests me. In the next class they are the model student. -WS

Ok, if you are still really hot on doing this, it is your time to waste modifying computers and re-configuring for each class etc. The better way to do this is to use OpenDNS instead of firmware on the router. Go to OpenDNS Make an account and log in give it your IP address and then pick what you want to block. After that change the DNS on all the computers to use OpenDNS then you will have blocked everything you want. If you need to change settings or unblock something it all you need to do is go to the OpenDNS website and make the changes, you don't have to go back to the computers and make changes.
