Hey Guys, I recently upgraded my wireless router from a D-link Di-614 to a Linksys e3000. A buddy of mine recommended it saying he didnt have wifi issues from the top of his house all the way to the basement. I live in a bungalo home, and so the router is on one side of the house, and my Desk and macbook pro is on the otherside. Im getting 4 bars in windows 7, its showing good connectivity, but its constantly disconnecting, even when its stable, its running very slow. When im close to the router is works perfect. I design for a living and am constantly transferring files to clients. So this has become a problem, Im constantly having to unplug my laptop and walk over to the router to send/recieve large files. Any suggestion on what i can do? Could there be something wrong with the router or my laptop ?

thanks.

My guess would be some sort of interference with the signal either physical obstacles, (walls or the like) or possible interference from other people having wireless routers in close proximity. Not sure how to do it on your specific model, but you can configure any wireless router for a different channel. Most wireless routers ship with channel six as a default.

As ridiculous as it seems item number 9 at this link significantly improved my signal here at home.
9 Easy Ways to Boost Wireless Router Signal

The only downside is it does make the signal more directional, so instead of a shotgun omnidirectional signal it will limit it more to a direction. This was not a downside for me as the router is in the back corner room of the house, so I simply pointed the 'dish' into the rest of the house.

If you have wireless land line type phones in your house you may look into updating them to one of the newer models that don't interfere with wireless internet as much.
Mine are made by at&t they were cheap, and are made to specifically not interfere with wireless broadcasts.

lol #9 is so ghetto! I wil give it a try, after i try a different frequency. What about item number 7, a repeater? ive heard that term before, is it like a wifi signal booster?

Well It works... trust me... it may be ghetto but the "not so finer" things in life always works the best.

Problem with Repeaters is this: Lets say... you have 54 Megabytes / add a repeater / now you have (54 / 2 ) 27 megabyte max throughput / Another Repeater / (27 / 2) 13.5 meg max .... therefore and therefore

This is what I recommend. I know it may be a little work but in the end you get the best output... just get a CAT 5e and higher and just run a straight cable from the router to the computer (only if its stationary) Another suggestion is that you can relocate the Router/Access Point... make it in the middle of the house.

Check out this grand piece of free software and make sure your channels aren't in use by anybody else.

lol No No I understood. Just being sarcastic.

I think that it is great to use knowledge like this and implement it into your current year of technology just to make something work.
