How to boot from usb

Hey all....I have a compaq cq57 229-wm laptop with windows 7 home edition 64bit and i am trying to repair my os. So i downloaded the iso file and followed the directions and put it on a usb so now i go to the bios to change the boot order and all i get is hard drive,cd-rom drive,usb hard disc and usb cd rom....pretty frusterating...any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

Hello gr8 mate personally booting from a stick I find rather tedious and prefer a disk to boot from for a couple of reasons the optical drive is nearly always in the BIOS and I lose sticks like a kid loses teeth LOL!! Plus I find although they are larger they are easier to store in one of those nice folders.

So I would be burning an ISO disk and trying that method anyway it is up to you.

Just as matter of interest I bought a new laptop just recently and it took a great deal of mucking around in the BIOS to get USB ports to be "seen" and I am sure you don't want to go there.

The flash drive has to be inserted before it will show in BIOS as a bootable device.

Also, most computer have a key you can press at boot time to bring up a boot selection menu where you should be able to choose the flash drive to boot from.

Well there you go me I still prefer the disk but now we know. I didn't know that as I have had machines where the USB is listed as a boot option - mind you my new laptop with EUFI BIOS does just what Z says

That's good gr8 now just as a matter of interest where did yu get the iSO forma s I know of only one legit site (not that I am saying you are using non legit stuff) because the only site I know of is in this tutorial
