How to burn a MP3 file to CD?

I tried the easiest way - drag it to Windows media player (on right) but it did not work. It said 'have errors or missing burning right'. Some website said we need to download decoding software first but some just said the drag and burn method.

If I clicked the cross next to the file, it would say 'too large to fit a disc'. It is a simple sound recording of about 1 hr. -- 41.7 MB

IMGBURN is the best and simplest to use.

I always burn at 8x or less - best results.

CD Burner XP is another good one.

I use ImgBurn, but it requires you to make a playlist. I don't think CD Burner XP does. It's a minor difference. Either would work.

A blank CD will hold 700 MB, so I have no idea about that size warning you got.

MP3's are burned as a "data" disc, not an "audio" disc. Burn speed is not important for MP3's, however as PSCO2007 points out it is for "Audio" CD's. My Audio CD burn standard is 8X, too.

Along with Imgburn, the free CDburnerXP works well and a little more user friendly (my opinion) than Imgburn. However, for my disc production I use Nero BurningRom as it allows burning to multiple burners at the same time, something none of the other burning programs (that I've found) will do.

Thank you everyone. I did not even think about Nero even though I've got it so I thought there was no need to do download (as I do not usually do this task). However, when I used Nero, it said the disc was not big enough even though the file itself is only 41.7 MB.

It is not essential to do this. So I think I will leave it.

If you are getting a message about the disc not big enough, there are other problems or the file is really not 41.7MB.

Depending on the MP3 compression, 1 minute of audio can be anywhere from 1Mb per minute up. At 128Kb/sec 44.1Khz, its approx. 1mb for 1 min of audio. Higher MP3 bitrates and obvious higher file sizes per 1 minute of audio. (a full fidelity wav file (16 bit/44.1Khz) is approx. 10 MB per minute).

There are three things to create a CD from MP3 files :

1. You need to download the MP3 files you want to listen to onto your computer.
2. As described in How MP3 Files Work, an MP3 file is a compressed version of a CD track. You need to expand the MP3 file back into a full-size CD track. This process is known as decoding, and you need to have decoding software on your computer to do it. You can download free or trial software from the Internet.
3. Collect all of the CD tracks together in a directory and write them to a writable CD. When you write out the audio tracks, you have to be sure to tell the software that you wish to create an audio CD rather than a CD-ROM.

That is not needed unless you want to make an "Audio" CD and not an MP3 CD. MP3's burn perfectly well, as is. I've done it many times. I have a recording studio and deal with audio, both wav and MP3 on a daily basis.
