How to change active partion in Windows 7 Ultimate

I installed Windows 7 ultimate and had my 1 Tb harddisk divided in a 50 GB partition and another (the rest)

I wanted to install Windows on the 50Gb but now it's installed on the other partition

How can I change the active & boot stuff to the other partition?

Are you wanting to move the whole OS, or just the boot files?

From Win 7 open an administrative command prompt window. Type the following followed by enter and wait for a response.

bcdboot C:\Windows /s C:

This will put the boot files on the C: partition. If you want to boot to that partition, just make it active.

Are you at a point where you do not want to delete the Win 7 install partition and reinstall? Moving or resizing the C: partition later can be a little risky...

Here's how to achieve what you want:

Back up your files and possibly a Win7 system image since Resizing operations can (rarely) fail, move any files you want off of 50gb partition.

Boot Partition Wizard CD, select 1 for Screen Res, right click 50gb partition>Delete, OK.

Now rightclick C:Win7>Modify>Set to Active, OK.

Next rightclick C:>Resize>slide left grey partition border over deleted 50gb space up against left HD border, resize right border to size partition as desired, OK. Apply all steps. Confirm C is now marked Active.

Win7 will not start now. Instead boot DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list, run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots as it will first attempt to repair and then write the MBR to C.
