Hi

Before doing the following, make a backup of your essential data (photos, music, documents etc.) in case those are lost when you make the changes.

  1. You will need your Admin Credentials - Go to Control Panel>User Accounts and Family Safety>User Accounts>Change Your Account Name
  2. To change the Computer Name - Right Click My Computer from the Start Orb (Or Desktop)>Select Properties>Modify via "Change Settings"
Hope this helps and keep us posted on your results

Regards

Hi

Thanks for your feedback.
The only way that you could do that is by changing the account user name (Method 1 above). However you would (could) lose access to the current folders based on the existing user name.
As a way forward - you could create another account under a different user-name and retain the current if you still require access to your existing files.

Have a look at the following links for more clarification and possibly, to assist you with what you want to achieve - I cannot upload proper screen-shots to step you through the process due to limited bandwidth (slow connection) on my side :o

User Folders - Allow or Prevent Moving Location

User Profile - Change Default Location (Thanks to Shawn :D)

Hope this helps and things work out

Regards

Hello Android,

Unfortunately, you cannot change the name of a C:\Users\(user-name) user folder. The only way around this is to create a new account of the same type (ex: administrator), then copy all of the contents from the old account's C:\Users\(user-name) user folders (including hidden AppData folder) into the corresponding new account's C:\Users\(user-name) user folders. After everything checks out ok, you can then delete the old account from while logged in the new account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

You're welcome Android. It will only be the same as creating a new adminstrator account, except that you are just copying some files over to the new account to keep your settings from the old account. That's all it will do if you wanted to try it.

To be safe, you can try it and not delete the old user account until you are sure that the new one is ok to you. If it's not, then you can just delete the new user account and be right back like you were with the old one. :)
