I just got a new laptop and when i started there were a few settings. One of them asked a option to choose either 32 bit windows 7 or 64 bit windows 7. I didnt knw if my computer was compatible with 64 bit so i decided to use 32 bit. Later i found out that my computer was compatible withe 64 bit and when i checked the sytem i saw that of my 8gb ram only 2.66gb was usable. Now i want to change to 64 bit. Is it possible. Thanks in advance to all help and i appreciate your efforts!

You can get the CD for cost (or maybe free) if you call the computer manufacturer.

I can just tell you with my Dell, what you buy is what you keep. I had 64 bit Vista and had to stay with it. I bought the Seven DVD ( 64 and 32 bit was included in 2 cd's) so now I have the option

If the Recovery Media Creator has the option to make 64 bit, you could reinstall with 64 bit.

If windows was already preinstalled, it was already either 32 bit/64 bit so when and how did it give you the option to choose 32 bit/64 bit? Stop playing games, no OEM gives those kind of options. And if it is some unknown, boutique OEM, I'd like to know their name.

As far as installing 64 bit goes, locate a 64 bit disk, install the same edition that came preinstalled and activate with the sticker key. You'll have to install all drivers and apps afresh.

And if it is some unknown, boutique OEM, I'd like to know their name.

For example.
Toshiba Notebook L450/L450D
Has 32 bit Windows 7 HP Pre-installed.
Toshiba Recovery Media Creator app will 32 bit.
The in box Recovery Disk is 64 bit.

Fujitsu P2560.
Has 32 bit Windows 7 Pro Pre-installed.
NO Recovery Media Creator app.
The in box Recovery Disks 32 bit, 64 bit Windows 7 Pro & 32 bit Win XP.

Ray, OP's talking about settings (read his first post), not disks.

Startup boot install? On an OEM computer? Any of our cussed Dells, HPs ever given us that option?

More likely a rogue whitebox seller. Thats why I asked the OP to tell us what OEM he's talking about.

And irrespective of the credentials of the maker, if he wants to switch to 64 bit, he has to reinstall- either the way the rest of the world does it or through some "custom" way provided by said maker.
