Solved How to change local disk to my HDD instead of my SSD?

I bought my PC build with an SSD, which I plan to use for programs and the such, and a HDD, which I want to use to store smaller files, like images and documents. But during the installation of Windows 8, I chose the SSD to install Windows.
Is there a way I can change local disk to be the HDD, and not the SSD?

Keep OS, programs, Hibernate and paging files on SSD to benefit from its speed.

It's best to install the OS on the SSD with the HDD unplugged. First have all of your files sorted into their User folders, dragged to HDD, then after install either link to the OS http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html or rightclick each User folder on data drive to link to its related http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/585-library-include-folder.html and then make that folder the default for that http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/595-library-set-save-folder.html.

I find that the best way is to change the location of the User folder to data drive. But if you use Win7 backup imaging you'll need to choose the Library method since otherwise it will want to include the data HDD in the image since you've moved System files to there.

Do you mean to tell me if I change the local disk, Windows 8 wouldn't operate from the SSD? Is keeping Windows files on the SSD a choice? Would that work?

Okay... So I did what you told me to do. Everything is in place, except I didn't cut the files when I moved them, I copied them. Now I can't find them because I rewrote their locations. How can I remove the old files?

Which files are these exactly? Where did you copy the files from and to?

Confirm they were all copied to the intended location before you delete them in the old location. if the old location is a storage drive then

From C:\Users\[username]\Documents
To H:\Users\[username]\Documents

C: being the SSD, and H: being the HDD.

And all the rest too. (Desktop, downloads, pictures, etc).

Oh, and I changed the Default locations to H:.

When you changed locations it will ask you if you want to copy the files too. Did you say yes?

If so then the old folder goes away and the new User folder is on H. It should have the icon on it showing it is a User folder:

If you changed the default location with the Location tab in Properties, then those folders should be on H now. What is the problem.

This is not the best way to do it, but it should work.

Okay, thank you. That should tie everything up! One last thing, I assume every new user has to do the same process?
