How to detect rogue DHCP: MS RogueChecker says I have a rogue DHCP

First time posting here, but I've read this forum for help before, lots of good help here.



I used MS's RougeChecker.exe and ran it. It says: 1 Rouge Server Detected. So that worried me! But I'm so clueless about it that I wanted to know if there was a way to confirm that? and if true what to do about it? I have a simple home set up with my PC and my wife's laptop.

Welcome to the forum. Did out give a clue what it was what is your setup is modem, router etc. If you have a modem and router both could have DHCP

I have just 1 modem/router unit...When I ran Rogue DHCP Server detection, It didn't really give me much information that I could understand. It showed just one listing that was tagged with a ! and below in red it said Number of Rouge Servers Detected: 1 Just like this stock photo below. So I'm not sure what to do next?

Run this its portable so you just run see what it finds NetBScanner - NetBIOS scanner


if from a cmd prompt you type


ipconfig/all


what does that have as dhcp server?

NetBScanner, I ran this and it had only one entry which was my IP address for my device PC, I checked that in my router and they match up, so that looks good.


I also ran cmd ipconfig/all and the dhcp server had only one listed which was my own IP address (the one I type into the browser's URL to open up the router's software).


So that sounds like there's maybe no problem? What do you think?
