How to disable? "use the windows security button to unlock this comp."

See see shot. Need some experts in the house its been 2 days of Goggle searches.

I'm trying to figure out if this is a Windows thing or different model wireless KB/mouse thing.

Reason I say this its on a corporate domain with a GVision touch screen / Windows 7 Pro./ NOT a tablet. Lots of threads on this message with tablets or mobile PC this is not one of them.

We just deployed same touch screen, same OS/model PC 2 weeks ago but different wireless KB/mouse. (no clue if that makes a difference but listed anyways)

Why is one PC normal logging in i.e ctrl/alt/del and other PC login has this message "Press ctrl alt delete or use the windows security button to unlock this computer"??

I've went in to Turn Windows features on or off unchecked Tablet to no avail. Its a brand new image same as the others but this screen is prompted at login. The PC BTW is an HP Mini we deploy and I don't even know where this security button would be.

Any ideas?Thank you

According to this tutorial: Secure Logon - Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to log on It looks like you have tablet/mini drivers installed no matter if the tablet/mini is connected or not, and that's why you're seeing the part about the security button, more on that later. This is from the tutorial:
NOTE: If you have a tablet connected to your computer with it's drivers installed, then you may see Press CTRL + Alt + Delete or use the Windows Security Button to log on instead.
You can try three ways to get around this; You're using 7pro so you should have Group Policy like @Megahertz07 suggested to check.
Scroll down the tutorial to OPTION THREE Through Local Security Policy set the policy then follow the directions in step #4 sounds counter intuitive but try that. Using 7home premium I don't have any experience with group policy but I think that's what you're after.

Or:
Go into device manager and look for your mini and disable it.

Or:
Have you tried CTRL+Alt+Delete, does it work to get in? If it does then just ignore the button part.

See this for more on: Windows Security Button. Scroll down a bit to the image. On your mini look for a button that has a key on it or in some cases there may be just a hole with a key beside it that you can put the end of a paperclip into to send the security signal.

Did you see if this rule is on Group Policy (GPedit.msc)?

Its default a.k.a Not defined as it was in Local Security Policy we checked. We did enable that but it takes the ctrl/alt/del right out of the loop and by passes that screen and we didn't want that so I disabled it. I attached SS in case i'm suppose to be looking else where.

How to remove "use the Windows Security button to log on"

Hello- thanks for the lengthy reply. I've read those tutorials but none of the steps applied could help. Heres a SS of device manager I don't see any Mini anything listed. I wish it was there.

CTRL+Alt+Delete works fine and they can login so yes we could just leave it as is, its just we we're trying to figure out why its there since the previous exact setup it didn't - just weird.

We did option three but it by-passed the screen all together so we kept it enabled.

Might have to live with it..

You're welcome and thanks for using the hidden devices view in device manager.

Did you look at the related link? In the checked answer there is a link: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windo...l-delete-use-windows-security-button-log.html It discusses a registry change but you need to make sure of the HID (Hardware ID) it'd be like the code in post #10

Did you check what's in Human Interface Devices in Device Manager? If there's anything in there about tablets or pads disable it to test.

Did you find any button or hole marked with a key on the mini?

If you're not sure about the keyboard or mouse disable them one at a time and test. Make sure you know some keyboard shortcuts to get around if you disable the mouse. Use the Select Product Version drop down box to get to win7's.

To be clear, are we talking about the mini or the machine in your system specs that has the use the windows security button to unlock this computer"?? verbiage?

We did check that related link its to no help. We're not gonna get in to bat files or scripts/code that seems way over the top theres gotta be something a lot simpler and if not we'll leave it as is.

I did check in Human Interfaces and nothing listed except the norm.

Totally the Mini with the message use the windows security button blah blah blah :) we ruled out the KB/mouse its the same wireless model on all other PC's plus its a touch screen its got the touch KB if they wanted to use it.

Didn't look for a button on this mini I honestly don't think it comes with that feature i'll have to look it up back at work.

I didn't think you would because of the complexity.

Try disabling the touch KB then test.

There's only two items left that I can think of;

  • There are files on the mini that relate to a tablet or notebook, and,

  • You would have to compare setting for setting between the good and bad mini's, I know, :( .
I'll post back if I come up with anything that we haven't already touched on.

Good question we didn't install the driver on the last one we just plug & play and let Windows take care of any drivers.

Thanks Roy, I wondered about those gvision drivers, but if it works when they are removed then you wouldn't have a touch screen. I didn't know if your crew used the touchscreen or not.

I'm not sure about the wording, it's one of those counter-intuitive things for me.
