Hello. i have search a lot on this forum and google, but havent found solution.
problem is that every time i open start menu or accidently click on shortcut on desktop that resides on sleeping hard drive, win7 starts spinning up the hard drive and wasting my time and wearing out hard drive without any need.

i really need this stupid feature disabled asap.
i have 4 hard drives and its very annoying when win7 just spins up hard drives without any need. its very frustrating!

thanks

oh no no no you misunderstood me. but thanks for reply. sorry if i wasnt clear what i want.
i want my hard drives to be spinned down not spinning at all times.

i have 4 hard drives for a reason. 1 is for games only. 1 is almost always on (OS is on it), 1 is archive and 1 is for massive things like adobe master collection.
i want my games drive spinned down when i dont play games but this stupid features keeps spinning it up every time i use startmenu :(
i just dont like the idea that hard drives are spinning for nothing. they dont need to be spinned up while im not using them.

or if i want to play a game, i dont want other 2 hard drives spinned up. i just want that stupid feature disabled. i like to manage shortcuts myself.

What makes you think it is a feature? Let alone one that can be disabled?

@ logicearth i know it is because of shortcuts, but windows 7 also checks if shortcut is valid. if shortcut is dead and it gets on the way, then it takes ages for windows to check it, even if hard drive is spinned up. it gets stuck for about 10 seconds. in order for me to achieve my goal. - i need to change all icons to default ? - need to find a way to prevent windows from checking shortcut paths being valid or not.

Windows does not check if the path is valid until you try and use the shortcut.
It is the icons that is causing your issue.

Is there some reason for you keeping dead shortcuts?
