Hi,
I want to edit the folder templates, cause the pre-fab Microsoft templates are insufficient to my needs.

The music folder template for example, doesn't contain, file-type, bitrate, etc. (yes you can select that manually but you can't apply the customization on to the subfolders......)

To manually change this for every folder is a waste of time.

PLease let there be a solution otherwise I'll have to install directory Opus again( waste of memory)

Hi Brink,
that won't work cause I can only do that with the prefabricated templates. I want to edit those prefabricated templates (not the folder)so they are suited to my needs.

For example the 'music' template now contains the following attributes: Name, # , Title, Contr. artist, Album.

I want to edit that template to contain more and different attributes. SO I can choose that template in future instead of the Microsoft templates.

It will work.

For example, make the changes (added columns) you want in the folder with the "Music" template. Open Folder Options from within that folder, and use Apply to Folders. Now all folder that also have the "Music" template will have the same folder view.

Can't get it to work; this will only affect one layer of subfolders. So I'll have to repeat it again if there's another layer?
For example : D:\Music\Alternative\Radiohead\IN Rainbows

If I apply it on the Music Folder, only the Alternative Folder will inherit the customized template. The Radiohead-folder is the standard Music template again...

What am I missing?

Edit: no inherition at all...unfourtenatly

What folder template does the subfolders have set for them? They may not be the "Music" template.

thanks for the help.

All the subfolders have the same template: 'music'

But the customization i make in the parent-folder aren't inherited.... (

Microsoft should make an 'customized-template' option in the "Optimize this folder For" customization menu.

Improved folder usage is on my wish-list for years now and I think Windows 7 was a great opportunity for Microsoft to set things straight in this compartment . Unfourtenatly it wasn't on their priority list.......... again.....

Is the D: drive that the folder is in an external or removable drive? If so, then these settings will not be remembered after it is disconnected.

It's works for me though, so I'm not sure why it is not working for you.

  • Open the D:\Music folder that has a "Music" folder template.
  • Add the columns. (ex: type, bitrate, etc....)
  • Click on Tools and Folder Options.
  • In Folder Options, click on View tab, Apply to Folders button, OK, and Yes.
  • All folders with a "Music" folder template should now have the same folder view setting as the D:\Music folder.

HI Brink,

Nice step by step explanation. It works!!!

The method I used and didn't work, was:

  • Open the D:\Music folder that has a "Music" folder template.
  • Add the columns. (ex: type, bitrate, etc....)
  • Rightclick on The Folder: Properties>>Customize
  • etc........
That obviously doesn't work.

Thanks for the help!!!

Thanx

Thanks from me, too - I've been trying to do this trick unsuccessfully until your method solved it.
