Okay, so lemme start off by saying that I've been looking everywhere on the internet for an answer through several forums and I've yet to find the solution to my persistent problem. It's almost laughable because 1. I've never ever had such a major problem with a minor problem my entire time I've been using a windows computer and 2. The problem I'm about to introduce is not new, in fact i wouldn't even consider putting it in the 'problem' catagory because it's so so dumb.

Rant over.

I have reformatted my HD to clean out all the doodoo and everything that mattered was all stored in my backup external HD, music, pictures, documents, games, all of that.

Windows 7 installed fine, cleaned out, I'm happy, etc etc, and here begins me about to start clicking and dragging my files back onto my HD

Now... >>>I<<< >>AM<< >THE< >ONLY< **ADMIN** on this computer.

The 'Permissions for Authenticated Users', all ticks on the 'Allow' side for everything, bare in mind I am the ONLY one using this computer with my current windows account being the ONLY account on this computer.
May I remind you this is a fresh windows install, I have done nothing drastic on this computer as of yet.
I have checked/changed the advanced settings in the security tab in my folders' properties and it states that I have 'full control'
Whilst still in advanced settings I check in the 'owner' tab to see that I am the current owner.

Please show the permissions and owner of file/folder you can't copy.

Best thing to to is
  1. Become owner of the folder. Also subfolders/files. There is a checkmark to do it.
  2. Change permissions of the folder. Give EVERYONE FULL ACCESS. Also subfolders/files. There is a checkmark to do it.
  3. Remove any DENY access

Your instructions are already applied.
I'd like to add if it for some reason makes any difference is that I can move my pictures fine. Music fine. videos fine.
Strangely this problem I'm trying to rid only applies to my PDFs and my mass library of samples and projects (Audio).
This just doesn't make sense why the 2 is giving me this 'admin' crap as for everything else is just fine as it should be.

My username is different now, I don't see why this matters though..
Your external hdd is still registered in your old user name which is why you don't have permission,

I don't know what you're saying, but not only can i not click and drag my files back onto my main HD I can't gain access to them period.
It'd be much appreciated if somebody knows how to fix this problem.
You'd be doing me and others in same position a big favour thank you.
Reminding everyone tuning into this post that I did a reformat on my main HD to wipe everything off and start again clean with my (what I would consider) important files backed up into my external HD in which some of the files here and there refuses to grant me access of any kind for some reason EVEN THOUGH I am the admin.

How does that explain the refusal of only the few files I have? What about everything else I can access?

I'm afraid that's a question I can't answer. I suggest creating a new admin account using your original details to see if it permits access to everything.

So you can read some files in a folder on external drive. Post permissions of file in same folder (a file that you can't read)

Show us the owner. Show us all permissions

**UPDATE** I have noticed that the colour of the folders names that I CAN'T gain access are green, as for the ones I can access are just default black.

Green means encrypted!!!

So you can't read ANY file in that folder at all! I thought you could copy some files??!

Why did you encrypt them? Encrypted files can only be read by the users that are allowed to decrypt them (they have the right decrypt certificate)

Yes I've JUST noticed this just before checking this post and that's it. I have absolutely NO IDEA why some of the files I have in my external HD are encrypted in the first place!! Everything that is on my backup HD has been transferred there the exact same way as one another (click and drag) so there should be absolutely NO reason as to why any of my files should be encrypted from the beginning!
This just doesn't make any sense..

I'm just typing into the command prompt now and I'm getting 'invalid parameter', I'm obviously doing this wrong. Help?

I am seriously dreading the next few answers, but is there any solution to this? I mean NOW I found out that some of my files are for some reason encrypted, and this is AFTER I reformatted my HD, is there such thing as decrypting?

Most likely some folders were already encrypted on external disk. When you drag files in those folders....files will be encrypted. They can only be decrypted if you have the right certificate!!

You have backup of certificate? You have backup of old win7 system?
