how to fix my corrupted usb drive

I have an 8gb Kingston datatraveler SE9. I copied a 900mb video into it and now it is not working properly.

1) if I connect the usb to my laptop it will get connected as usual and I can see the video file in it but I can't play it, then the system will recommend for a "scan and fix" , once I scan the usb it is lost ,I can no longer see the video file and properties show 0 bytes and no free space,

2) if I format the usb then "windows was unable to complete the format"

3) I tried formatting the usb using usb format tool but then it showed "the disk is write protected"
I removed write protection using cmd, regedit but it then also the format tool showed the same error

4) I tried diskpart to clean the usb but "diskpart has encountered an error the media in the drive may have changed"

I think my usb can be fixed but I don't know how. please help

Sorry to hear of your problem, albeit was unable to figure out a fix. . .since it is only a 8 gig usb, and assuming it is usb 2 then why not bite the bullet and just get another one.

When I encounter a stubborn sd card or usb stick I use HP USB tool to format. It's always done the job when all others have failed.

Was the pendrive working properly before? For how long have you been using it? Is it still under warranty?

Sounds like a hardware failure, one of the memory chips or cells went bad. If that is it you can't fix it. As soon as that bad section gets written too it will error and prompt you to fix it, which you can't. If it won't format its likely defective.

yes it was working properly before I copied the video. I have been using it for at most one year, it is not that old. I don't know about its warranty

As alphanumeric opined, it may be a sudden catastrophic failure.

Anyway try this. Plug in your pendrive. Go to Device Manager. Under Disk Drives, right-click on your pendrive > Properties >Policies > Select " Better performance > OK. Close Device Manager. Pull out your pendrive and plug it in again. Does it make your pendrive OK?

If not, give up and buy a new one.
