Hey all...

Was running AVAST 7.x fine for years, then just updated W7 with SP1 (and all subsequent updates and patches) and afterward AVAST was causing lagged boot time up to 4 min. (Verified it was AVAST doing it by selective boot using MSCONFIG and by looking at diagnostics / event viewer.)

Have not wanted to update AVAST as I don't like the newer versions.

Uninstalled AVAST v7x and reinstalled with same result.

Uninstalled again and reluctantly installed newest AVAST, 2015 beta 10.something. (File & Web shields only, no cloud services, no participation, no streaming updates and no auto-program update.) Boot time about 1:08 but the computer is unusable for a couple minutes while AVAST hogs resources.

REALLY disliking the new AVAST, I used their uninstall tool in SafeMode to remove it, then used a reg program to seek out all instances of AVAST and ALWIL in the reg and deleted all those keys. Also cleared all left over folders, including in user/appdata. Rebooted.

Downloaded AVAST v6.01367 (last version of 6), got offline, then tried to install that. But it pops up a notice that I am trying to install an old version and it will download the newest one. It gives me no choice in the matter.

When I previously had reinstalled v7 a popup says I am trying to install an old version, but gives me the option to continue. But v6 has no option to continue.

Anyone know if a different older version won't do this, or how I can get around it? Thanks!

I downloaded the oldest 6 version (6.0.1270) which installed without a hitch, unlike v6.0.1367. Weird. Only thing I did different before trying to install this version was cleaning my browser cache, which I don't see how that would have made a diff since I was offline anyway. IAC this is solved. Now just hoping it doesn't cause a 4min boot problem like v7!

EDIT: Argh..... 2min boot. Back to the drawing board.
