Solved How to Get Dolby Digital Plus Sound on Older Computer?
Hi All,
I have an older computer that I'd like to give my nephew. However, I noticed there is no audio/sound when playing the newer DVDs (Dolby Digital Plus).
Dell 5150, Pentium D820 Dual Core 2.8 GHz, 250GB, SII Hard Drive (7200 rpm), 3 GB Memory, DDR2 SD RM, 533 MHz, nVidia Graphics 6800. I'm currently running Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit on this computer.
The upgraded sound card was not compatible with Windows 7 so it had to be removed. Currently running on just the on board sound.
Do I need to upgrade the sound card in order for him to play Dolby Digital Plus?
Thanks, ms

Speedy (Power supply looks very inadequate - but what do I know)
- if you try the Novabench for a bit of fun you should be around 1300-1400 at a guess
I just upgraded this year too (from 2x 9yr old Agp/Barton 3000's)
They still did everything I needed for everyday tasks/played Crysis easily but HD/Blu-ray was just too much. Even managed to sell them!
Had to build reasonably powerful new pc to cope with editing brothers wedding which I shot in HD video.
Bought a second-hand/3 month old Amd 8150 Bulldozer cheap/16gb ram (it keeps up with intel top i7 processor when doing video compression/conversion - the only area)
Novabench 1320
Just finished a low power, uber quiet, HTPC with AMD A10 5700 /16gb ram
Novabench 813
I have one of these Asus D1 Soundcards around 1 yr old - now sitting in a box
(my latest motherboard Asus F2A85M-Pro doesn't even have a pci slot!)
