How to get external sound card & audio out of XP Mode?

Hi there... I recently set up XP Mode Virtual PC inside my Win 7 Ultimate OS.

1) It's all running fine, but I can't get any audio out of it?

2) A Focusrite Saffire & M-Audio External Sound devices are connected to my main Win 7.

3) My goal is to run DAW apps in my XP Pro XP Mode VM, and send the audio out to/thru my Sound Devices. I've tried varying ways, with no success thus far.

I actually can get any audio signal out of my XP Mode, and wonder if it has to also do to that I have an external sound device that's bringing my audio to my monitors.

Any guidance will be MOST APPRECIATED.

I think I'm having similar issues. I have installed music recording software to my Win7 computer in XP mode (because they only run on xp), but I have two hardware issues.

1. My recording software requires a USB key to run, and it won't recognize it when It's plugged in so I can't use the software.

2. My external sound card (i-onix u22) is installed in Win7 because it won't install on xp, and in XP mode none of my music software will recognize the hardware.

This is a huge issue, and I don't want to have to buy another whole computer just to run my recording software and hardware. The guys at geek squad told me this would NOT be an issue (yes, I went to geeksquad before upgrading), but it's making my life a mess.

Please, if anyone knows how to make this work, respond to this thread.

The XP Mode is primary for running old XP programs unable to be installed or run on 7. But being on a virtual machine of it's own you are seeing shared resources with the host OS. Despite the integrated components seen there you are still limited to the host for direct access for sound and video devices.

The integrated components provides direct access to drives installed on the system for copying and storing files. That also sees a degree of support for usb devices like flash drives and printers to some extent. But unfortunately you still have to configure things like sound and other devices in the host OS being 7. There are no device drivers you can install on the XP Mode itself to allow for this.

To clarify, thus if a music DAW (e.g. Cubase/Acid) application is running within XP mode where Win7 is the host OS, there's is no way of having the play back & recording of audio from these DAW within XP Mode to work.

This is the main problem run into with any VMs to start with where you are relying on the host OS's own resources rather then seeing direct access to everything as you would on the host. Simply trying to get a tv tuner card to work on the XP Mode was out for the same reasons.

Forget an XP dvd burning program on the XP Mode due to seeing the APCI Library dll errors or something similar while optical and floppy drives are still available on VMs. With the XP Mode seeing usb support that was actually a step forward by MS there however while they are now gearing more towards VMs and Cloud networking. perhaps in a few years some advancements in the VPC arena will see more direct hardware control.

I know it's a stinker when you can't get everything running there like you would on a normal install to physical HD. MS was more interested in getting businesses to upgrade to 7 and Server 2008 with XP app support there however.

Unfortunately you can't device drivers in the XP Mode even while it offers support for some usb devices there like flash drives and some printers. For external video and sound devices using the usb bus you kind of get left out there unfortunately. Hopefully you will find what you need with a working dual boot. I know that one at times!
