How to get Firefox 8 to open maximized?

Whenever Firefox 8 opens, it opens in minimized mode (ie, just about covers the whole monitor screen, but not quite...hovering over single square in upper right gives a tooltip of "Maximize". I'd like it to open in maximized mode (in upper right should show double square and "Restore Down" tooltip)--how? Within the icon's shortcut on the desktop, properties>run>normal or maximize makes no difference, FF still opens minimized.

EDIT: BTW, the same thing is also happening on my laptop which is configured exactly the same as this desktop. Different computer manufacturers, but same OS and same configs for FF8.

maybe that's happening cause its been re sized to that, try making it smaller with the arrows. then click on maximize and close it.
when you open it again, it should open maximized.

Try this free app. I've used it for several months. It's quite stable. To remember a window size and position, including maximized, select the window so it's the "active window" then hit the hotkey. That's all there is to it.

edit: I believe Winsize2 works off the window title. To get it to work no matter the title(such as if you open Firefox to a blank page the title is different than if you open to a site) you may be able to get it to use the window class name. Look in help for the utility.

edit2: for example, depending on the version, Firefox may use the class name "MozillaWindowClass"

Use one of those Window Spy apps to get the class name.

edit3: In Special Parameters there's a check box to use class name to detect windows. Guess you don't have to supply it manually. When you hotkey on the active window it can get the class name then. Anyway, it's a pretty nice free utility. Worth a try.

The present problem I'm having with FF's performance, is something new as I don't believe that its not opening maximized occurred until recently. Also remember that the same problem exists on my laptop which has FF8 configured the same as this desktop. Certainly this change in behavior could be due to the addition of extensions. If I do run FF in safe mode (no extensions or plugins), it opens properly. So, I disabled one off my most recent addons - Fox Splitter (and reported the problem it apparently caused to its author and to Compatibility Reports), and now FF opens as it should...

That's one hazard of FF. You have to run so many extensions and they go out of version so often it requires a lot of maintenance. I'm running Chromium with 5 extensions, one of which is disabled unless I run it manually(it just checks for dead bookmarks.) Less to go wrong. I used FF for a long time. I even ran it out of a Ramdisk because it was so slow starting if the HD was busy when I opened it. Chromium just gets off the dime faster. Of course it runs more processes. Nothing is for free. I still run FF as my second browser. Not everything works with everything(have Opera in case those 2 don't do it.)

Guess I'm not in the power user category as I'm not too much concerned with speed of operation (as long as it isn't snail's pace). I rather enjoy tweaking until I aesthetically like what I see and have the bells and whistles I like. Enjoyed Maxthon 2 until it started crashing a lot and wasn't getting very good support as all efforts were going over to M3 (which isn't ready for prime time yet) and away from M2.

I installed MaxThon 2 and 3 recently just to get the window class names for a program. The install puts them on the machine so they open in an unusable state. Not the way I remember using MT years ago. It's like if you install any browser you have to spend 2 hours just to get an initial config unless you are overlaying something you already have. It's bizarre. Nobody would use an editor that required all that maintenance out of the box. Oh well, if you've never used a Ram Disk you might find it fun to run FF portable out of one. It feels like the old Dos days.
