I have a hard drive that went dead (maybe not totally). Dell put in a new hard drive (like it was from the factory) and I am going to put the 'old' hard drive in the machine as a second drive and hopefully get some word documents etc. from the drive. Is it possible to copy files and from the old drive and install them into WLM and get back my folders and contacts from the old drive. How can this be done, if it can.

Thanks,

Bruce

Yes it can. I have posted several times in this forum about WLM "contacts" and WLM "Message Store" so it may help to look for those posts. Bascically the location of the Message store in the AppData folder is given by the new install and will be in the same place on the old hard drive which you will navigate to when you do an Import of the messages. Contacts will come into the new program automatically from Microsoft (contacts.live.com) if you were signing in before when you sign in again. If you were not signing in, it's a bit more complicated involving substituting the contents of the new (empty) contacts folder with the contents of the old contacts folder (also somewhere under appdata).
