How to hide some new extension file type?

Well I'm new here..

I found some file extensions (.modd and .moff) that I didn't want to be viewed in the folder, so I need to make them hidden.
So, would someone here tell me how to make those two extension to be added to type of extension that automatically hidden by windows 7?

Well windows hides extensions for "known" file types. So if you associate those file exptensions with, say, notepad. They may go away...

Or did you mean hide the entire file? I believe you can only do that on a file by file basis, not based on an extension. Right click the files and select "hidden".

fyi, those two extensions exported from video camera, but i rather them to be hidden.

I don't know of a way to add a file type to the list of file types that windows hides by default (Like the thumbs.db file)

I have a feeling that they are mostly based on folder location with indivitual files (like thumbs.db) being hidden by the piece of code that creates them rather than being a system wide setting.

For example, if I just create a file called thumbs.db in a folder, windows does not automatically hide it. Windows creates that file hidden itself...

[Edit]A scripting guru could probably come up with a small script youcould use that would search your HS for those files and hide them all in one swoop. You would have to rerun it every time you copied more files off your camera or whereever they are coming from though.[/edit]

You can select all the files in the folder, Properties and select Hidden.
I don't know how to automatically hide them, but someone else may weigh in on that.

This is a guess but cant see harm and may help in long run-

Why not add to indexing? You might actually search for some of them one day and it also might solve your problem of making it a known file type- I am on unclear ground here too.

Go to control panel/indexing options/ Advanced button/ file types tab.

You should not add .modd but simply modd- (it already knows it's an extension )

I may once found how in windows XP.. but now I'm using 7.
I guess it has to access and edit in registry for file system?
Hope someone could tell me how to edit this in registry.

i found Gunners File Type Editor at this link, it's a standalone application, but seems not working either.

Hide "modd" & "moff" files

This is simple. Right click the start button. Choose windows explorer. In the search field, type in "modd". When the files finishing loading, click on the first one, then hold ctrl button and type "a" to select all. Right click on any selected file and choose properties and put a check in the box beside hidden. Do the same for the "moff" files.

Yes, Windows 7 hides certain file types. How can we — the users — do the same with the product that we paid big money for? Attrib +h is not working, for you would have to do it again and again all the time.

My problem is the same: a sound editing programme makes these .pk-files that are used to load the audio files faster when you open them again. The file is created for each sound file, into the folder where the sound file is.

I'd like to hide them. Attrib +h does not work, for you would have to do it everytime again. I also tried to put the attrib +h on the START-folder, but it didn't work either.

Is there a programme one could use? I have FileTypesMan, but it can't hide any files with a certain extension.
