How to install a networked printer w/o driver support?

I have Win7 Pro installed on my laptop, and have an HP Deskjet 6122 attached to a desktop on my home network. When adding a network printer, I can see the printer, but since HP doesn't have ANY Win7 drivers released, Windows can't install it.

HP's site gives a workaround, saying to use a Deskjet 990c driver "which is included on the Win7 disc". Just to see what's included, I tried installing a local printer, browsed to the list of supported HP printers, and surprise surprise, no 990c listed (not that it's a local printer anyway).

So what's the fix for this? Since HP claims that the 'alternate driver', the 990c one, is included with Windows, it doesn't even offer a link to download this driver.

So how can I print from Windows 7 to a networked printer??

You might want to try downloading a Vista driver for your printer. I had the same problem with a Lexmark and was told by Lexmark to download the 64 bit version of their Vista driver. I actually downloaded the 32 bit one first just to try and it worked. Still not sure why I was told to use the 64 bit when I don't have a 64 bit system......

On that same note, I still can not get my laptop to connect to my works Toshiba eStudio450 printer. This is one of those big all in one commercial printers. Worked fine in XP. I'm getting a 0x00000057 error.

HP 990c IS included in Windows 7, I just checked this.
You have to click the Windows Update button, when adding a printer manually.

64 bit drivers cannot be installed in a 32 bit OS, and vice versa.
Which driver do you use for the Toshiba?

Currently I cannot get the Toshiba to work. I can see it in the network but when I try to connect I get a 0x00000057 error.

I thought that guy from Lexmark was wrong when he told me to use the 64 bit driver. Good thing I tried teh 32 bit driver first.

Next issue is that I'm having the same problem on my wifes computer, trying to get her to hook up to the Lexmark printer through my desktop. I'm getting all kinds of errors here.

Same problem here. HP Officejet 5610 printer connected to XP machine via USB. Two Windows 7 machines connect wirelessly. The Sony laptop added the printer just fine. A brand new Dell laptop sees the printer but gets 0x00000057 error when it tries to add it. I updated chipset, BIOS, network and HP print drivers to no avail. Dell says they don't support connections to HP printers(!) and wants to charge me $$$ for software support because I have a "limited" warranty. Help would be greatly appreciated.
