How to install fonts separately so they don't group into a family

Hello,

I have some crappy software that I have to use for my work and it does not recognize fonts once they are grouped into a family. This is non-Adobe software so there is no style menu to choose from. I have 6 styles and weights of Titillium that we use in our Brand Standards, but of course, when I install them in the Fonts folder, they combine into a family, and then my software does not recognize them as separate fonts. Does anyone know a way to install them in Win7 and have them not group into a family, but remain as separate fonts?

My MS software programs show the font family name only but Adobe programs, I use Elements 13, show the individual fonts within the family so I think you are tied to what your software is set to do.

Done a bit of research and found that your previous thread in 2014 shows that this is relative to the way your software is set up.

Thanks for the reply, and as per my old thread, yes it does have a bit to do with my software, but if I could get the fonts to install separately they will appear in the list as I need them to, I have managed to get some other fonts to ungroup/nongroup by installing one style/weight at a time, and they appear in the list, but I cannot get Microsoft to install Titillium as separate files. Any thoughts.

I still think the only robust way of achieving what you need is via the software but Googling "Titillium" shows a huge number of results showing dozens of variations of the font. Where did you download your version from?

I agree with you about the software, and I have tried several versions of the font - OTF, TTF, different source files - the issue is the fact that Microsoft automatically generates a font family collection as soon as I install more than 1 weight/style of the font, I need to find a way to keep them as individual files in the Fonts folder - then my software recognizes them as separate fonts.

I use a free font manager NexusFont that allows me to load and unload fonts from the windows font folder at will. It may not be the most elegant way to get round your problem but it may still be a working solution as the font manager allows you to create font subsets (Collections), you could set these up on a job by job basis and it may even be possible to break the family link or at least get around it

Use the software to empty the installed font list and then load the fonts you need for a particular job run and the software should see the fonts as separate fonts
